The Cellini was Rolex's dress line for fifty-five years: gold only, leather straps, no Oyster case and no Perpetual rotor on most of them. Named for the Renaissance goldsmith, it ran from 1968 to 2023 through round and shaped watches, the rectangular Cellini Prince and finally the 39 mm Cellini Time, Date, Dual Time and Moonphase of 2014 to 2023. The 1908 is its successor.
Every Cellini on Dialist is listed by a verified dealer and covered by buyer protection. If you want the current dress Rolex, compare with the 1908; the Cellini lines below are reachable from the directory.
The Cellini name was formalised in 1968 for Rolex's non-Oyster dress watches, and under it the company made some of its least Rolex-like pieces: the asymmetric King Midas designed by Gérald Genta, octagonal and cushion cases, the hinged-lug Cestello and the Danaos of the late 1990s. Most were hand-wound, many were small, and all were gold or platinum.
The Cellini Prince of 2005 to 2015 revived Rolex's 1928 rectangular Prince with a hand-wound calibre 7040 and the first display back on a modern Rolex. In 2014 the line was rebuilt around one 39 mm round case with a double bezel, domed and fluted: the Time, the Date with a pointer sub-dial, and the Dual Time with a second time zone and day-night indicator, in white or rose gold on alligator.
The Cellini Moonphase of 2017, rose gold with a blue enamel moon disc and a meteorite moon, was the last Cellini standing: the Time, Date and Dual Time left the catalogue in 2022 and the Moonphase on the day the 1908 launched in March 2023.
Lines
Time (three hands), Date (pointer date), Dual Time (second zone) and Moonphase are the 2014 to 2023 watches. Prince is the rectangular 2005 to 2015 line. Danaos, Cestello, Cellinium and King Midas are earlier shaped watches; round Cellinis date to the 1960s.

Materials
White gold and rose gold for the 2014 line, yellow, white and rose gold or platinum for the Prince and earlier watches. There has never been a steel Cellini, which is why pre-owned prices start where a steel Oyster's do.
Movements
The 2014 line is automatic: calibres 3132, 3165, 3180 and 3195 with about 48 hours of reserve. The Prince runs the hand-wound 7040; vintage Cellinis are hand-wound 1600-series or, for ladies' models, quartz.
Sizes
39 mm for the 2014 line; 45 by 29 mm for the rectangular Prince; 24 to 38 mm for the vintage and shaped watches. Water resistance is 50 metres on the modern watches and nominal on the vintage ones.
Cellini or 1908
The 1908 is the current dress Rolex with a new 66-hour movement and a display back. The Cellini is discontinued, trades below it and offers complications the 1908 lacks. For a dress Rolex at the lowest price, a Cellini Time; for the rarest, the Moonphase.
