The Lady-Datejust is the Datejust at 28 mm: the same Oyster case, Cyclops date and fluted or smooth bezel, the same choice of steel, two-tone and gold, on a Jubilee, Oyster or President bracelet. It has been in the catalogue since 1957, at 26 mm until 2015 and at 28 mm since, and it is the Rolex most often bought as a first gold watch.
Every Lady-Datejust on Dialist is listed by a verified dealer and covered by buyer protection. Start with the Steel models, or the Diamond Bezel references in two-tone and gold.
The women's Datejust arrived in 1957 as a 26 mm Oyster with the same self-changing date as the men's watch. The 69xxx references of 1983 brought the sapphire crystal, a quickset date and the calibre 2135; the 79xxx of 1999 and the 179xxx of 2005 refined the case and moved to the calibre 2235. Gold references on the President bracelet became known as the Lady President, a name the market uses to this day.
In 2015 Rolex replaced the 26 mm case with the 28 mm Lady-Datejust 279xxx in gold and platinum, and in 2017 added steel and two-tone. Every current reference runs the calibre 2236 with a silicon Syloxi hairspring and 55 hours of reserve. The reference number tells you the metal: 279160 is steel with a smooth bezel, 279174 steel with a white-gold fluted bezel, 279173 and 279171 steel with yellow or rose gold, 279178 and 279175 solid yellow or rose gold, and an RBR suffix means a diamond bezel.
Dials are where the Lady-Datejust differs most from the men's watch: sunray champagne, chocolate, pink, aubergine and olive green, mother-of-pearl, and diamond or Roman markers, across fifty-six current references.
Sizes
28 mm since 2015 is the current case; 26 mm from 1957 to 2015 is the vintage and neo-vintage market, with the 179xxx references of 2005 to 2015 the modern-feeling value pick. For a larger watch, the Datejust 31 is the next step up.

Materials
Steel, with a smooth or a white-gold fluted bezel, is the entry point. Two-tone pairs steel with yellow or rose gold and is the biggest part of the market. Solid yellow and rose gold come on the President; white gold is diamond-set only today.
Bezels
Smooth on plain steel, fluted on two-tone and gold, diamond-set on the RBR references. The fluted bezel is white gold on the steel watch, which is why the 279174 costs more than the 279160 for the same case.
Bracelets
Jubilee is the five-link bracelet designed for the Datejust in 1945; Oyster is the three-link sports bracelet; President is the semi-circular link bracelet reserved for solid gold. Current clasps have a 5 mm Easylink extension.
Movements
The 279xxx references run the calibre 2236 with a silicon hairspring and 55 hours of reserve. The 179xxx and 79xxx run the 2235 with about 48 hours, the 69xxx the 2135. All are chronometer certified; the 69xxx and later have a quickset date.
