The 1908 is the dress Rolex that replaced the Cellini: 39 mm, 9.5 mm thick, a domed and fluted bezel, small seconds at six and a sapphire back showing the calibre 7140. It launched in 2023 in yellow and white gold on alligator straps, added platinum with an ice-blue guilloché dial in 2024 and a seven-link gold bracelet in 2025. The name is the year Hans Wilsdorf registered the word Rolex.

Rolex had made dress watches under the Cellini name since 1968, always in gold and never in an Oyster case. In 2023 it replaced the line with a single model and a new collection name, Perpetual, and gave it the 1908: references 52508 in yellow gold and 52509 in white gold, each with an intense black or intense white dial, Arabic 3, 9 and 12, faceted indexes and a railway minute track, on a black or brown alligator strap.
The calibre 7140 is new and exclusive to the watch: 4 Hz, 66 hours of reserve, a Syloxi silicon hairspring, the Chronergy escapement and an openworked gold rotor, finished with Côtes de Genève striping and visible through the first display back on a current Rolex. The case is 50 metres water resistant.
The 52506 of 2024 is platinum with an ice-blue dial in a rice-grain guilloché pattern. In 2025 Rolex added the Settimo, a bracelet of seven rounded gold links with a concealed Crownclasp, on the yellow-gold 52508-0007 and 52508-0008, the first bracelet in the collection.
Materials
Yellow gold is the launch reference and the warmest; white gold is the quiet choice and reads as steel from across a room; platinum is the top of the range and the only metal with the ice-blue guilloché dial.

Dials
Intense white or intense black on the gold watches, ice blue on platinum. The white dial is paired with a brown strap and the black with a black strap from the factory, though dealers may have swapped them.
Strap or bracelet
Alligator with a gold Dualclasp folding buckle on every reference since 2023. The Settimo seven-link bracelet of 2025 is yellow gold only and adds materially to the price; it cannot be bought separately.

Calibre 7140, made only for the 1908: 28,800 beats an hour, 66 hours of reserve, silicon hairspring, Chronergy escapement, chronometer certified to minus two plus two seconds a day, and visible through the sapphire back.
Size and thickness
39 mm and 9.5 mm thick, slimmer than the 11 mm Cellini Time it replaced and slimmer than any Oyster. It sits under a cuff and wears like a classic dress watch; water resistance is 50 metres, so it is not a swimming watch.
